Career Summary

  • October 2014-Present. Regional Manager, Durham University, UK with operational responsibility for Durham’s activities across the Middle East and Africa with responsibility for approximately £100K/annum budget. I am also responsible for the management of Durham’s engagement with key sponsors/funders (e.g., embassies, cultural missions etc.), as well as management of strategic project.
  • Jan. 2012-September 2015. Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Chemistry, Newcastle University, UK with complete responsibility including budgetary and financial control of £150K for the management of Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project involving the development of innovative commercial gas sensors. Gained extensive experience in successful management of budgets for annual maintenance spending and projects, including the implementation of cost and tracking systems for research procurements.
  • April-Dec. 2011. Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical& Petroleum Engineering, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada with responsibility for numerical simulation and modelling of complex processes as well as project management for the development of analytical and numerical tools for complex phenomena.
  • Oct. 2008-March 2011. Research Associate in the Sir Joseph Swan Institute for Energy Research at Newcastle University, UK with responsibility for multidisciplinary research management in the area of clean use of fossil fuels. These responsibilities include meeting scientific and operational challenges for the commercialisation of large-scale underground coal gasification with carbon capture facility and compliance with regulatory requirements for licensing from the Coal Authority and legal EH&S standards. I also attend high level energy related meetings in the UK House of Parliament on clean coal and carbon capture and storage. Developed commercial awareness and gained familiarity with compliance with planning and current legislation as well as responsible for all aspects of our multidisciplinary research and equipment and facility maintenance and functional laboratory including laboratory health and safety. The role, which carried direct responsibility for the management of my PhD research including reporting, planning and organisation, decision making and problem solving skills when dealing with technical challenges.
  • Sept. 2002 to Dec. 2008. Helpdesk advisor/examination Invigilator at Newcastle University, UK with the responsibility for the provision of functional frontline service to student population. Responsibilities include making sure that students complied with the University rules and regulations governing the conduct of examinations. I developed customer service skills through resolving issues relating to students queries relating to IT issues etc.
